This is a raster to vector conversion. That’s exactly what Scan2CAD is for.

This YouTube channel for AutoCAD Tutorials seems pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/user/timcallinan

Here’s the first video in their series.

I doubt he’s running AutoCAD 2014 in his tutorials but that shouldn’t matter the differences won’t be major. You’ll still be able to learn from the vids.

From your question – it sounds like you’re new to CAD. I’d suggest starting with a free 2D drafting solution like Draftsight. We did a comparison of the free CAD software options on the Scan2CAD blog.

Give yourself time to learn the basics and in a few weeks or months you can consider whether you need another option. You’ll likely be in a better position to understand the benefits and differences between other CAD software.

Most software options are designed to solve a specific problem. So – for example – don’t confuse things by comparing Solidworks to AutoCAD. Because they are designed for totally different requirements. You should know which is best for your requirements.

AutoCAD does this to speed up the rendering time of the drawing you’re viewing.

They do not actually change the curved vectors in any way. If you were to save the file out, your arcs and circles would still have perfect curves.

If you get used to this type of view, it’s better IMHO. Purely for the improved rendering performance.

But if it’s annoying you, you can easily change it.

How to make jagged shapes curved

    1. Simply run the VIEWRES command.
    2. Youll be asked if you want ‘fast zooms’ choose ‘Y’ or ‘N’
    3. Enter a value of 1500

The exact number doesn’t matter much, you could choose 1,000 or 2,000. Something in that region should be fine.

I’m not sure I understand your question. But if you have a Scan2CAD question you should ask the support team https://www.scan2cad.com/contact-us/

Support is free for all users and response times are fast.

    Hi Purus,

This question is too light weight on details.

    Hey Steve,

AutoCAD should always find your installed system fonts.

I expect the problem is that the currently install d system fonts do not exactly match the font name previously used. e.g. Ariel vs. Ariel-condensed if the name differs by a character it would not automatically be found.

If you’re running Windows 10, I’ve read of users having problems with fonts. It may be due to a lack of full access priviliges. (Source)

    You mentioned:

“Other styles that I have are using the correct font and size but for some reason the font extends outside the original area they used to be in!”

Is it possible you’re using a slightly different font? I’m asking because every font has different sizes even if their pt size is the same. For example the text string ‘hello’ in Arial 10pt  may have a different length to the same string in Helvetica 10pt. Therefore I wouldn’t spend much time looking at the reasons for the size differences.
