I can’t really get what you are trying to say but, yes I think it seems so that the industry is moving towards the more specialized programs (Inventor-Solid Works for Mechanical Design / Revit for Structural and Civil Work , etc….)

AutoCAD is a drafting tool used by almost all engineers (All Engineers need a 2D Draft to work with), yet it’s apparent that current 3D CAD Software can easily generate those drafts easy, you no longer have to think (as funny as this sound- some colleagues here know so little about design and drafting), yet produce premium quality designs with perfect drafting and working drawings.

not just this but current software gives you the ability to use your drawings in presentations as well, showing where each part goes(Exploding view) and how to assemble the product

Yes, it seems that the industry is moving towards 3D programs but whether or not the current 2D generations will fade away, we only have time to tell but I guess so, yes.

Unfortunately there is no direct way to save in the older format

but there is a work around, first you need to save as a .stp file or .obj file

Then re-import them in the older version

you can not do this to assemblies though, you can only do this to parts

then redo the assembly there,

I suppose you mean Point style, yes?

You can easily access point style from the main menu here:

The following menu appears

From there on you can choose a different style, a different size

Type WHIPTHREAD=3 in the command line and tell me how it goes ?
