What skills are required to be proficient in AutoCad & Revit as a Civil Engineer?

I’m doing some career planning and would like to know what type of skills or courses do I need to master AutoCAD and Revit sufficiently to be able to work as a Civil Engineer?

Ascent has some pretty good material on prep for certification. I would suggest checking them out and using it as a goal.

To be a successful engineer it requires a balance of  alot of different skills; those can be classified as the following:

This is all great, but remember without Enthusiasm, Motivation and commitment to close the deal;

Managers generally look for those skills in all of their employees.

In terms of specific CAD skills and the difference between AutoCAD and Revit

Revit is basically the same as AutoCAD; they are all what we call “Drafting Programs”; the main difference between Revit and AutoCAD is that Revit Actually understand geometry; it understands what a door looks like,  Revit is great for modeling, generating cost schedules, collaboration and change management.

What can you do to improve your skills?

Learn, just learn; there are massive support online, massive online courses, you just have to participate and remember 80% of Success is showing up.

If you’re looking to get a headstart on learning these CAD programs, there are plenty of online video courses that should help. Personally, Lynda.com has a lot of helpful courses that taught me how to use Revit efficiently.
