Why does building design suite include: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Revit?

I’ve noticed these are all included in the building design suite.

Why would you use AutoCAD Arch. and Revit? Just curious what the workflow would be..

Hi there,

It’s just a matter of marketing, AutoDesk includes all of these in one package to allow different employees in the same company to have a say in which program to use

It’s  just a matter of preference, background and experience, All of them can do basically the same thing with different workflows and methods.

that doesn’t mean that they are all identical, some are more handy than others in each task.

Revit Can do some tasks easier than AutoCAD in HVAC design for example, on the other hand AutoCAD might be best in Drafting mechanical Drawings.

You just have to decide which area do you do your most work and then stick with one of them.

A technical comparison table can be found below:

Hope this helps 🙂

Honestly, I think it may be taking into account how a good number of offices still use AutoCAD when preparing plans and other drawings. We use Revit in our architecture firm but we coordinate with engineering firms that still use and send over AutoCAD files, and so having access to both Revit and AutoCAD comes in handy.
