Is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4GB GDDR5) a good enough GPU to run autoCAD

I’m a student who is going to college and I will be studying engineering and I have the Acer 15.6″ Nitro 7 Gaming Laptop with 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-9750H Six-Core, 16 GB RAM, and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4GB GDDR5). Is this sufficient to run AutoCAD?

My instinct is that yes, that setup would be fine for general AutoCAD work.

Of course, you could always open a really complex drawing which could cause you problems. Not all drawings require the same processing power 😉

If you already have this laptop, I’d suggest downloading the AutoCAD free trial to test performance before buying the software.

Just for some extra context, the ‘Asus Geforce Turbo GTX 1080’ is listed as fine for AutoCAD but not good for 3D CAD. Source: https://www.scan2cad.com/cad/cad-graphics-card/

What is the best budget laptop you would suggest for autoCAD then?

Shoham, you might also want to consider laptops with Quadro graphic cards since those are the ones that can really run modeling and rendering programs.

Additionally, the concept of having a dedicated graphics card to run AutoCAD only comes into play if you’re dealing with 3D models. If you’re just doing 2D drawings on AutoCAD, a decent CPU should suffice.
