How to make Block “unique” in AutoCAD

My workflow involves switching between AutoCAD and SketchUp so I’m familiar with working on both. SketchUp has this function that makes components “unique” by right-clicking the components and clicking on the Make Unique option. This is useful for a variation of a repeating component that I might want to make.

Is there something similar for AutoCAD’s blocks?

Update: I’ve found that using the FLATTEN command effectively turns the selected block into a flattened version of it with a new name (e.g. NamedBlock into NamedBlock-flat1). It only really works on 2D models but since I don’t do much 3D work on AutoCAD, this works good for me.
