Solved: How to Solve AutoCAD 2017 – 4K issue

The 4K, 3840 X 2160 resolution problem scaling in AutoCAD 2016 I think has been solved with the latest update as JavaParaTrooper suggests above.

I looks like the graphics card also can struggle to drive such a big monitor.

Does anyone know what if AutoCAD has issued any guidance about an optimal resolution?

At HD resolution (1920×1080) AutoCAD runs fine for me but it’s rubbish at 4k.

Screen resolutions are only going to keep increasing so either the AutoCAD package and/or our hardware is going to have to keep pace.

AutoCAD 2016 does not support 4k screens I am afraid.

Here’s a good example of the type of problems I’ve been encountering too. It seems from the YouTube comments people are thinking it’s related to the hardware not the software?

Do you guys think it’s a hardware or a software problem? Maybe this 4K, 3840 X 2160 resolution problem scaling in AutoCAD 2016 is actually a hardware issue?

The problem with using AutoCAD with 4K screen as monitor (3840×2160 pixels) is that the television will scale the input to fit the screen (in the same way you used to see 4:3 input warped to 16:9) this distortion or scaling takes processor power and/or leaves a less responsive or HQ output that we might expect.

As they used to say in college at Computer Science class, Garbage In Garbage Out.

Great news AutoCAD 2017 supports 4k monitors, here’s an extract from the specs for the latest release:

For AutoCAD 2017.1 Update:

Conventional Displays:
1360×768 (1920×1080 recommended) with True Color

High Resolution & 4K Displays:
Resolutions up to 3840×2160 supported on Windows 10, 64 bit systems (with capable display card)

The key thing I think is with capable display card so we’re going to need to have a good graphics card to handle the larger screen. I guess it makes sense. Better upgrade!

I apologise for being very late to this, but it may help someone if they are still searching for answers, as I have been today.

I had exactly the same issue that Margaret above shows in the vid.

The answer is to change the Windows / System / Display settings to 1920 x 1080 (in my case) and keep size of text, apps, and other items to 100%.

If you have custom settings that greys out these changes, then you need to allow Windows to log you out first to make these changes.

If you are also running Windows under VMWare Fusion, as I do, then you also need to change the Display settings in Fusion to uncheck ‘Use full resolution for Retina display’, otherwise after a minute or so it bounces you back to the automatic setting, which is back to exactly what Margaret shows above in the video.

With this sorted, my LT 2017 on Windows 10 looks exactly the same as my old LT 2010 on Windows 7 did.
