How can I shutdown & move AutoCAD license server to another location?
Hello all
I would like to ask about shutting down the license server. I plan to move the license server to another location. I just moving the license server by shutting it down without doing any changes. Are there any concern about license and software before and after shutting down?
I need to shutdown my license server and move it to our new HQ, How do I go about this without disturbing the clients, will they be able to work ? Should I just move the server; are there any special instructions or hints?
If you can move the server while users are not working it should be OK to just move it
If they will be working while you are moving the server, the best thing is for the users to borrow their licences

So If I borrow a license on each client that will not be connected to the server at the time of moving, these licenses will continue to work?
also is there a way to automate the process we have 180+ clients connected to the server

There is no “command line” way to borrow a licence, so scripting is not possible
There is a BORROWLICENSE command in AutoCAD, which brings up a dialog box for date selection
You might be able to use soemthing like AutoHotKey (https://autohotkey.com/) to create a tool to borrow the license
AutoHotKey scripts can be compiled into executables, so you could compile it and run on login without having to install the AutoHotKey application on all workstations
The script would need to do the following
- Start AUTOCAD
- Run BORROWLICENSE – I’d do this from an AutoCAD script
- Wait for the dialog to appear
- Send the necessary keys/mouse clicks to the dialog to set the return date
- Send a mouse click to the Borrow License button
- Close AutoCAD (if you want to)
When the licence has been borrowed, you do get a “License Borrowed” dialog when you start AutoCAD – this free app will close it – https://apps.autodesk.com/ACD/en/Detail/Index?id=110472001822440209&appLang=en&os=Win32_64

As Nick has already stated borrowing the license will do the trick, no you do not need to do anything else; just make sure that your system on the other side (Network Connection) works before moving the server, you do not want to have problems when installing on the other side, specially that borrowing a license has a dead line.
