How to fix jagged/blocky circles & arcs in AutoCAD?

Answered

How do I make all circles and arcs appear smoother in AutoCAD? They currently look jagged or blocky, like they are formed of very few segments.

I’ve fixed this before but I can’t remember how…

Also, why does AutoCAD do this? It seems like a weird ‘feature’ to force this curved shapes to look bad.

AutoCAD does this to speed up the rendering time of the drawing you’re viewing.

They do not actually change the curved vectors in any way. If you were to save the file out, your arcs and circles would still have perfect curves.

If you get used to this type of view, it’s better IMHO. Purely for the improved rendering performance.

But if it’s annoying you, you can easily change it.

How to make jagged shapes curved

  1. Simply run the VIEWRES command.
  2. Youll be asked if you want ‘fast zooms’ choose ‘Y’ or ‘N’
  3. Enter a value of 1500

The exact number doesn’t matter much, you could choose 1,000 or 2,000. Something in that region should be fine.
