Solved: Does Bootcamp support AutoCAD on Windows 7?
I have MacBook Pro and I’m trying to use Bootcamp to run AutoCAD (PC 2016 version) and it isn’t working.
Does anyone know is Bootcamp supports Windows 7?
Has anyone got AutoCAD running successful via Bootcamp on PC?
Mac are normally great for handling graphics processes but I wonder if long-term it is wise running a PC version of AutoCAD on a Mac.
Does anyone know if it has a big impact on rendering time and performance running is on a different OS?

Bootcamping your Mac will relatively slow down your system as your hardware is not really compatible with windows, regardless;
The advantages of bootcamping include:
- AutoCAD has way more features on Windows than Mac.
- Better control and support on forums.
- You will not need to convert to new workflows to compensate for the short comings of AutoCAD on Mac.
The advantages of AutoCAD on Mac would include:
- The software will run faster.
- Updates and support online.
However if your system can run AutoCAD for Mac, it will most likely run AutoCAD on bootcamp comfortably.
Here’s someone trying it out on a virtual machine:
I run Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro – two years old now
Benchmarks suggest it runs slightly slower under Windows 7 than under OSX, but nothing is massively slower
It compares very favourably to equivalent laptops from Dell/HP/etc
I run AutoCAD, Inventor, 3DS Max, Vault Pro and it has no problems with any of them
It is almost certainly the best laptop that I’ve run Autodesk software on in the 30 years I’ve worked as an Autodesk reseller & user – the only things that have come close have been the Dell portable workstations, which weigh 3x as much, so lose out on that count
