I was very impressed with the tools on surface plugin. It allows me to be able to model things in a way that a base SketchUp install wouldn’t allow, and once you get past the learning curve, it’s fairly easy to use. I could have done with a little more documentation on the way everything works, but with a little trial and error, I was happy with how easy it is to use.
Overall, this is an extension every SketchUp modeler should have installed on their computer. The ability to work on curved surface is long overdue in SketchUp, and this tool fills that gap admirably.

angelinajohn has a good point, there are a bunch of really good plug-ins that should help you with this. But if you’re looking for a native way to do it on vanilla Sketchup, try playing around with the Follow Me tool. For more organic surfaces, the Sandbox tools are great.
