Can you migrate custom settings from an AutoCAD Educational version to a commercial version?

I have  AutoCAD  2016 Educational version on my home PC.  I have custom settings I want to migrate to my new Work PC AutoCAD 2017. Can I do this? I followed Lynn Allen’s custom settings migration Video instructions to zip file my AutoCAD  2016 Educational version custom settings. But when I tried to open the zip file, it told me it was empty???

Can anyone help me?

Hi there Corey, and welcome to CAD Answers
From what you just described, I understand that you are trying to migrate your settings to a your work PC which unfortunately doesn’t work the same way…
Here’s how you can migrate to completely new computer;

Migrating between computersYou cannot use this utility to migrate between computers. No files are exported or saved that you can move to another system. To migrate settings between computers, try the following methods:

Migrating from old to new computers:

  1. Install AutoCAD 2017 on your home PC (Trial)
  2. Migrate settings to the version you just installed
  3. Press Start -> Migrate Custom Utilities -> Export AutoCAD 2017 Settings
  4. Copy the ZIP to the new computer
  5. Import the settings using Start -> Migrate Custom Utilities -> Import AutoCAD 2017
Please tell me how this goes 😉

The more recent versions of AutoCAD actually have a migration utility built into them. JavaParaTrooper outlined the process pretty well, so just follow the steps, and you’re golden.

Do note that this only works with versions that have the same language, and doesn’t support migrating settings between AutoCAD LT, Architecture, Mechanical, or plain on AutoCAD.
