Is Acer nitro 5 good for AutoCAD?

Answered

I am wondering to buy Acer nitro 5. My main purpose is AutoCAD but I love to play games too. So I was thinking of buying a gaming laptop that meets all the requirements of AutoCAD. So, will Acer nitro 5 be a nice choice for me?

It’s specs are:
Core: i5 8th generation
8GB ram
4gb Nvdia GTX 1050 Ti dedicated graphics card
Storage: 1TB + 256gb SSD

The spec seems high but the only thing you need to consider is whether the graphics cards is suitable. I wrote a long post about this discussing GPUs for CAD at Scan2CAD.

In short, most graming GPUs are not suitable for CAD and most CAD GPUs are not suitable for gaming.

But at-times you can get lucky. You could check if the GPU you intend on buying is listed as one of AutoCAD’s recommended devices

According to my post on Scan2CAD, the Asus Geforce Turbo GTX 1080 is suitable for AutoCAD. So I expect this GPU would be also.
It will, of course, depend on how complex your AutoCAD drawings are.  The more complex, the more computer resources you will use.

But it seems pretty high spec for a small laptop.

And with any laptop for CAD work, always check if the parts are upgradeable. To be specific, check if you can upgrade its RAM and hard drive. A nice little tip on getting the best bang for your buck when it comes to laptops is seeing if there are cheaper alternatives that have upgradable parts and then computing if it would be cheaper to get that more affordable laptop and get better parts.
