  • Autodesk does list a recommended driver for the Intel HD 520.  I’d get that one.

     

    No listing at all for the GeForce card.

    Copy your PAT file(s) into the default Support folder that AutoCAD uses to find hatch patterns. The default path is specified in theSupport File Search Path listed under the Files tab in Options. It is usually the first one shown. It is the one that goes to your user folder.

    Windows Vista and newer:
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support

    Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support

    Note: For AutoCAD 2009 and earlier, the default location is: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Support

    Mac OS:
    ~Home/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/AutoCAD 201x/Rxx.x/roaming/@en@/Support/Hatch Patterns

    Note: For AutoCAD for Mac 2011-2015, the default location is ~Home/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/roaming/AutoCAD 201x/Rxx.x/enu/Support

    Added PAT files will have their hatches listed under the User Defined or Custom hatch menu within AutoCAD.

    Note: The “AppData” and “Application Data” folders in the above paths are hidden folders. Be sure to have hidden files/folders set to display in your folder options or you won’t see them.

    A quick way to get to the AutoCAD Support folder is to copy the path from the Options window in AutoCAD and then paste it into the search field in the Start menu, the Cortana search box on the taskbar, or into the location bar of any folder window in Windows Explorer or File Explorer. Alternately, you can type %APPDATA% into the search field of the Start menu, the Cortana search box, or into the location bar of a folder window to take you directly to the respective Roaming and Application Data folders, which you can then drill down into the Autodesk folder, AutoCAD 20xx, etc.

    Most folks find our video tutorials the best jumpstart for learning SketchUp  (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?…), but I think the best possible thing to do is to start with some project that matters to you.

    There’s no better motivation for learning a new tool than having a problem you want to solve with it. With a goal in mind (“I want to model my dining room table!”) you have real context for learning the tool.

    Aidan Chopra’s “SketchUp for Dummies” book is also good, as well as being a rollicking good read.

    1. Select an object and press CTRL+C to copy it into the clipboard
    2. Press CTRL+V to paste in the object
    3. At the prompt “Specify insertion point:” type X and press ENTER
    4. Enter the desired scale factor and press ENTER
    5. Specify the Insertion point

    Note: If you do not specify a different Y Scale factor, the scale factor you enter for X will automatically be applied in the Y direction too.

    If you do want to specify a Y Scale factor that is different from the X scale factor, enter Y followed by pressing the ENTER key after step 4.

    To implement dual dimensioning, it is necessary to create a new dimension style and then apply that dimension style to the dimensions that need to be displayed in metric. The current dimensions need to be displayed in decimal form. This example shows how to convert dimensions that are currently displayed in inches to display in millimeters (mm).

    1. On the Dimension menu, click Style.
    2. In the Dimension Style Manager, click New.
    3. In the New Dimension Style dialog box, select a Name, Start With Style, and select Use For: All Dimensions. Click Continue.
    4. On the Primary Units tab, enter mm in the Suffix box and set the Scale Factor to 25.4 (there are 25.4 mm per inch).
    5. Click OK, and then click Close.
    6. In the drawing, select the dimensions that you want to be displayed in millimeters.
    7. Right-click and click Properties on the shortcut menu.
    8. Expand the Misc category.
    9. Select Dim Style, and then click the list of dimension styles and select the dimension style that you just created.

    The selected dimensions are now displayed in millimeters.

  • When i started off. I used a Core 2 Duo with 1 GB RAM and Windows XP. I installed CATIA v5, SolidWorks 2010, AutoCAD 2010. They worked fine. however i had heat related issues while rendering.

    Right now you can get an i3 or i5 or i7 processor. with a decent 4GB or more ram is more than sufficient. They work fine even in 2GB RAM but if you want to push a software to its limit. Like rendering with ray traces working large files. Then go for 4GB or more.

    Once you place a model documentation drawing view in a layout, you can select it for editing.

    Note: Model documentation is available only on 64-bit systems.
    1. Move the cursor over the drawing view to edit. The drawing view border appears.
    2. Click an empty area inside the drawing view. Grips appear.
    3. Click the lookup grip. A menu appears.
    4. Select the new scale from the menu. The drawing view resizes, using the location of the lookup grip as its base point.

    Actually I learned AutoCAD in an ordinary laptop with a configuration of i3 third generation intel core processor, 4GB ram, 2GB intel graphic card. But the recommended configuration for AutoCAD is i5 5th generation or above, 8GB RAM or above, 2GB additional graphic card along with intel, 16GB virtual memory or above. This configuration is enough for a moderate use.

    There are several methods how to launch an external .EXE application from the AutoCAD environment.

    The easiest way (similarly also in AutoCAD LT) is the function (startapp) – you can e.g. run NotePad by entering (startapp "notepad.exe").

    Another method are the commands SHSHELL and START, which can be used to invoke and external OS command or program.

    Another often used method is adding the requested .EXE application to the ACAD.PGP file – creating an command (program) alias. See the PBRUSHcommand alias definiton as a sample.

    AutoCAD offers many other ways to start a program – e.g. the Shell function in VBAARX programming environment, MTEXTED setting, etc.

    Issue:

    When you restart the program (after it becomes unresponsive and freezes your computer), the splash screen is displayed briefly and then closes down with no apparent error message.

    Solution:

    Troubleshoot the problem using the following process:

    Verify that the Licensing service is running:

    1. Access the Windows Run box.
    2. Type Services.msc and press Enter.
    3. Search for FLEXnet Licensing Service or FLEXnet Licensing Service 64.
    4. Make sure the services are started and running (if they are disabled, they will prevent the program from starting).

    Inspect the contents of productname201xENUAdlm.log:

    1. Find this file at the following location:

      Vista/Windows 7/8/10:
      C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADLM

    1. The error will typically be:

    Reason=Fatal error
    ComputerName=COMPUTER
    OS=5.1.2600.Service Pack 2
    File=AdlmIntSATSLicense.cpp,Line=1150
    AdlmIntError=38 [Error getting license usage and behavior]

    or:

    Reason=Fatal error
    ComputerName=COMPUTER
    OS=5.1.2600.Service Pack 3
    File=AdlmIntSATSLicense.cpp,Line=347
    VendorID=2 [ADLMACT]
    VendorError=101 [The license cannot be accessed/loaded/opened]

    These errors indicate that the ADLM trusted storage file was corrupted when the program crashed.

    1. Rename the following file by adding a .bak extension at the end of the filename:

    Vista/Windows 7/8/10:
    C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_*_tsf.data

    Note: You may need to enable ‘Show hidden Files’ to see adskflex files mentioned above. Refer to the Microsoft topic, , for more information.

    Warning: This file contains all activations for all 2010 and later products.  You will need to re-register all your products if this file is renamed/deleted.

    1. Restart the program:
    It should automatically re-register and start up as expected. A new adskflex_*_tsf.data file will be created when you re-register your product.

    Update your Graphics Card Drivers:

    Visit your graphics card manufacturers web site and download the latest available drivers.
    If the above doesn’t help try disabling hardware acceleration using /nohardware switch.

    Starting AutoCAD-based products without hardware video acceleration

    Uninstall the product (if the previous process does not help):

    If you are still having problems, licensing file could be corrupt.

    1. Uninstall ALL Autodesk products on the machine.
    2. Delete the tsf.data file from step 3, above.
    3. Delete the Productinfromation.pit file from the following location:

    Windows 7/8/8.1/10:
    C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADLM\ProductInformation.pit

    1. Re-install the program.
