RE: Solid works question

Update – changed the question subject to AutoCAD

on October 3, 2016.

Could it be AutoCAD is alergic to Nick Grimshaw 😉 seriously though… what browser are you using to listen to the radio? Does it only happen with the BBC site, or with Radio 1 🙂

Are you on a Mac or a PC super user?

on January 11, 2017.

I think one of the issues holding this back will be cross compatibility of browsers, OS etc. There’s a lot more controls with a downloaded software package.

I know myself my Chrome often runs out of memory even with a few Chrome extensions.. so I could imagine it happening but it will need to be with a dedicated browser perhaps which only runs the CAD app and removes all the bloatware associated with today’s browsers?

Cloud based delivery is an exciting concept though as we’d be able to share our files easier and have ‘remote rendering’. It could be a game changer. There’s software like PhotoView 360 for SolidWorks which does network rendering and Autodesk 3DS networking rendering is available too.

Next stop cloud rendering.. Those OnShape guys are first, but I am sure they won’t be the last.

There’s a manual way if you do not have EXPRESS TOOLS or if you are on AutoCAD LT;

http://cadpanacea.com/wp/?p=286

You basically export the text using  WMFOUT

Then reimport using WMFIN

Are you looking for a 4K, wide screen? What kind of budget do you have Cadcamadam?

on February 14, 2017.

Actually for now 4K monitors have been reported to have issues with AutoCAD 2017 & AutoCAD 2017 Lt, but I am sure it will be solved in the next hotfix

on February 15, 2017.

@cadman I’m not after a 4k monitor. But yes, I guess it should be widescreen. Budget is up to $1,000 (USD) @JavaParaTrooper – yes, that’s what I heard also. I’m steering well clear of 4K for now. So far – the DELL Ultrasharp monitor seems to be a really good option. http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/ultrasharp-monitors I had Dell before and it was very good tbh.

Option 1:
Using the keyboard functions CTRL C + CTRL V

Option 2:
Using keyboard functions CTRL C , BUT before moving the objects use the right click option on your mouse to drag the objects from Drawing A, as soon as you let go of the right click an options to “paste to original coordinates” is made available.

Option 3:
Use the WBLOCK command to take information from Drawing A such as blocks, objects and even the entire drawing itself to be saved as a block to use in Drawing B. Once a block is created use the  command in drawing B to get desired effect.

Admin message: I’ve updated this question to reflect that you’re using AutoCAD.

Hi, 1. Create an ASCII text script file called model_ext.scr. 2 . Add the following AutoCAD commands and AutoLISP functions: … 3   Test the script for proper operation. … 4   Click Project tab Project Tools panel Utilities. … 5   Select the Run command script file option. 6   Browse to the script file. 7   Click OK.

Update: Found a nifty plug-in that does thetask for me. A bit finicky sometimes, but overall pretty reliable.

Update: I’ve found that using the FLATTEN command effectively turns the selected block into a flattened version of it with a new name (e.g. NamedBlock into NamedBlock-flat1). It only really works on 2D models but since I don’t do much 3D work on AutoCAD, this works good for me.

Please tell us what CNC software you are using

on July 3, 2020.

The machine and software come from a Chinese manufacturer YUNCO Precision yunco.cn/en/ . I am writing code in their given format, they call it YC format.

Layer, 0, 1    /*Layer,Normal,tool*/

0.1689,4.6694,1,0,0                 /*X1,Y1,angle,start,tool*/

0.0189,4.6694,0,1,0               /*X2,Y2,0,end,tool*/

on July 14, 2020.

Sounds like a very niche use-case!

I would suggest speaking with the ‘Yunco’ manufacturers, or maybe they have their own support community?

If you’re interested to learn more about the DXF file format, we published this on Scan2CAD a while ago: The DXF File Specification

Additionally, I would prefer to include SketchUp in my workflow since I’m already comfortable with the software. Would anyone know which of the two programs would be more compatible with SketchUp?

on January 27, 2021.

Update: I’ve been trying out Blender for the past month and it seems like a great and versatile tool for 3D Printing. I’ve managed to do a few small prints and they turned out great!

on February 10, 2021.

Fusion360 and Shapr3d. Try the free demos and you will see why ….

on April 15, 2021.

Additionally, are they that much better than SketchUp or Blender for small scale modelling projects? Should I just stick with the programs that I already know instead of focusing on software meant for larger scale manufacturing?

on June 2, 2021.

Alternatively, are there other cheap/free BIM programs that I can use on a budget?

on June 2, 2021.

I should add that I’m operating with as minimal of a budget as possible, so any free-to-use software that anyone could suggest is more than welcome in this thread.

on June 16, 2021.

And on a related note, does anyone have any file management standards that they feel work best? I’m curious to see what other people are doing with their digital storage.

on July 9, 2021.

Just to start the discussion, my routine involves saving files and labeling them with the current date.

The next time I need to edit the file, I make sure to copy the latest version of the file and update the date.

Mindsight Studio’s Double Cut SketchUp Extension seems to do the trick – https://mindsightstudios.com/double-cut/

It isn’t free though. Still trying to figure out a way to do this without paying before I decide to buy this extension.

Can you clarify what you mean by software applications?

on October 22, 2021.

As a follow up, I have a lot of people suggesting Lumion to me, but the reason I prefer V-Ray is because it works within SketchUp and you can precisely plan views using SketchUp’s Scenes.

on November 18, 2021.

This particular tutorial shows a way to do what I need but it seems to be a time-consuming process. Hours of work for a few seconds of animation – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO56Usudgbw

on November 29, 2021.

To clarify, the latest version I had was the 2016 version.

I’m struggling to find settings for ambient occlusion and render channels.

on December 14, 2021.

Right now, the best workaround I’ve found is using the exported settings that I have saved from my older version of V-Ray and opening that up on the newest version. Not exactly getting the results I wanted though, so I’m still holding out for any good suggestions on how to use the updated software.

on January 27, 2022.

Yes its possible. here’s a link to a short course showing how its done. Hope it helps.

Start drawing the model and we’ll help you in finishing it if you are facing any problems modeling some of the details

As I have said in the earlier post start by drawing several circles and extruding them to model roughly this shape 🙂
