AutoCAD LT 2017 – block insertion scale from tool palette

I’ve created a number of blocks in millimeters (INSUNITS=4) and added them to a tool palette with the Design Center. When i use the blocks in an imperial job (INSUNITS=1), the blocks come in large and need to be scaled by 1/25.4. I’ve spent hours looking into this issue and eventually gave up and resigned to manually scaling the blocks or adding a scale drop-down in a dynamic block.

Just now i inserted one of my blocks into a clients’ drawing (INSUNITS=1) and my block inserted at the right size. My clients’ drawing was created with a non-LT version of AutoCAD.

I’m wondering if this is an “LT issue” i’m experiencing. Or, is there another setting i’m missing (i’ve investigated UNITS, INSUNITS, INSUINITSSOURCE and INSUNITSTARGET) that they have set properly?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciate!

type -dwgunits at the command prompt.

Enter the values pertaining to the drawing’s units.

When prompted with, “Scale objects from other drawings upon insert? [Yes/No]”, type N, Enter.

That should stop scaling of objects upon insert.

CustomShop has a good point – when it comes to incorrect scaling, it’s almost always a matter of differing units between DWG files.

Please take a look at the following system variables that might help, along with the suggestions made by other community members in this post.

  • INSUNITS – Specifies a drawing-units value for automatic scaling of blocks, images, or xrefs inserted or attached to a drawing.
  • INSUNITSDEFSOURCE – Sets source content units value when INSUNITS is set to 0. Valid range is 0 to 20.
  • INSUNITSDEFTARGET – Sets target drawing unit’s value when INSUNITS is set to 0. Valid range is 0 to 20

Check out the link below give great insight to past AutoCAD release and this issue;

Hi there,

I do not think that it’s  “LT issue” as you have proposes so

Firstly you need to check the DWGUNITS make sure it matches the 2 files

Secondly when inserting make sure  the “Scale objects from other drawings upon insert?” is set to YES

Tell me how this goes!
